(Reporters: Cao Chenlu, Zhang Yi) To enhance international students' ability in using databases, the School of Finance held a special training session on the Refinitiv Database for all international students at 11:00 AM on November 4th in Conference Room 401, South Wenquan Building. The lecture featured Mr. Edwin Kwan, Client Manager of Refinitiv, who was specially invited by the University Library. Director Feng Jie and Teacher Tan Rui from the Information Consulting Department of the University Library attended the session.

Mr. Edwin Kwan first started with Refinitiv's corporate positioning and development history, systematically expounded on the important value of the Refinitiv Database in financial research and other fields to international students, helped them establish a preliminary understanding of its application scenarios, and laid a solid theoretical foundation for the subsequent practical training.

In the session of explaining database content, Mr. Edwin Kwan gave a detailed account focusing on the overall structure, data coverage scope and characteristic functional modules of the Refinitiv Database. He also closely connected with the common data needs of international students in thesis writing, demonstrated how to accurately locate target data and screen effective information through specific cases, helping international students quickly grasp the basic operation logic of the database.

Subsequently, Mr. Edwin Kwan focused on explaining the Excel plug-in function and data stream application of the Refinitiv Database. He sorted out the types of data sets commonly used by international students in academic research and their retrieval paths, and demonstrated on-site how to export data from the database to Excel, providing efficient solutions to practical problems that students may encounter in data sorting and dynamic analysis.

In the final Q&A session, international students spoke enthusiastically and actively raised questions about operational difficulties such as "how to handle massive amounts of data", which Mr. Edwin Kwan answered in detail one by one. Through in-depth interactive communication, the international students gained a more thorough understanding of the database's operational logic and application skills.

This lecture, featuring detailed and substantial content with both professionalism and practicality, has effectively promoted international students' in-depth understanding and efficient use of the Refinitiv Database, laying a solid foundation for their subsequent academic research.
