School of Finance Hosted Orientation Meeting for New International Students and Mentors
(Reporters Cao Chenlu, Zhang Zixin) On September 25th at 14:30, the School of Finance held anorientationmeeting for incoming international students of the Class of 2025 in Room 207, South Wenquan Building. Attendees included Hu Hongbing, Director of the International Exchange Department and Doctoral Supervisor at the School of Finance; Lü Yongbin, Deputy Dean of the School of Finance; Gu Lulu, Leader of the International Student Mentor Group; Chen Sichong, Zhuang Ziguan, and Xiao Shuang, Representative Teachers of the International Student Mentor Group; Chen Lingfeng, Doctoral Student from the School of Finance; along with all incoming international students of the Class of 2025 at the School of Finance.
At the beginning of the meeting, Professor Gu Lulu, on behalf of the school, extended a warm welcome to the new students. She encouraged them to proactively engage with their mentors, devote themselves to academic research with a humble and earnest attitude, adapt to the new environment as soon as possible, and embark on a fulfilling and rewarding academic journey.
In the teacher-student interaction session, the international students took turns introducing their academic backgrounds, research interests, and future academic plans, demonstrating diverse cultural perspectives and keen academic interests.
The attending mentors also shared their academic experiences and research fields, and put forward practical suggestions on how to efficiently utilize campus resources, balance academic research and life, etc. The on-site communication was relaxed and enthusiastic.
Zhang Zixin, the assistant of the Graduate Office of the School of Finance, provided a detailed explanation of the entire process of degree application to the new students, introducing the key time nodes and important considerations in each step, helping international students to clearly grasp their academic progress. Dr. Chen Lingfeng shared his research experience on causal inference, the importance of mathematical tools in economic research, and how to efficiently access and use databases, providing practical suggestions for the upcoming scientific research work of new students.
This orientation meeting has successfully built a effective communication platform between the international students and their mentors, further enhancing their sense of belonging. The School of Finance will continue to promote international talent cultivation, provide high-quality academic support and a conducive growth environment, assisting the students in smoothly navigating their academic transition and achieving their scholarly aspirations.
